All my lines on my mother’s side are supposed to be Cherokee. I am currently compiling a list of roll numbers and testimonies taken from my ancestors and I will post back soon.
4th Great Grandfather: Reuben Emory (1789 – 1896)
Mahala Clonts Guion Miller Testimony
Mahala Clonts gives her Guion Miller testimony. She mentions my 4th great grandfather Reuben Emery whose mother was Abraham’s sister Nancy Emory. Nancy was the daughter of William Emory and Susanna Grant, a very well-documented and very prominent Cherokee family. My 5th great-grandfather was Old Tassel who took Nancy Emory aka Wurtah from what is now the EBCI. Old Tassel claimed the EBCI was led by his nephew John Watts and his family who settled among a group of Jewish silver miners in the Apalachin mountains.
3rd Great Grandfather: John Emory (1849 – 1876)
Grandpa John Emory was murdered by ABC agents when he was still relatively young. I remember hearing his story told by my grandma as she mixed up a concoction called “Onion Medicine.” The primary ingredients were onion, sugar, and moonshine. Grandpa John ran a legitimate still house in Northern Georgia.

2nd Great Grandfather: Clark Emory (1873 – 1949)
Tsali: Southern Band of Cherokee Indians
The Southern Band of Cherokee Indians is a tribe that still exist today. Enrollment is by birthright with most descendants being directly related to one of four primary family groups. The Reese family, Sarah Standard, Rattling Gourd, and the Cherokee Emory family. These are the four primary family groups who’s ancestors suffered great losses during the “Trail of Tears” earning them the right to stay east of the Mississippi. Tsali is the name given by our Eastern Cherokee brothers translating to Charlie Reese who was also Stand Waties uncle.
